Robert L. Ritter, Esq. has been practicing law in New Jersey since 1979. He received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University, Cum Laude, and his law degree from Fordham Law School.

Mr. Ritter represents business clients engaged in trial and appellate litigation in state and federal courts. Mr. Ritter has handled a wide variety of cases concerning shareholder and partnership disputes; specific performance; declaratory judgments; probate litigation; real estate litigation; construction litigation; landlord/tenant disputes; real estate broker claims; employment litigation; franchise disputes; claims between lenders, borrowers and guarantors; Uniform Commercial Code claims; eminent domain; planning and zoning appeals; and professional malpractice claims.

Mr. Ritter tries cases in the Superior Court of New Jersey and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Mr. Ritter also has arbitrated substantial disputes before the American Arbitration Association. Mr. Ritter is an experienced appellate advocate. He has argued cases in the New Jersey Appellate Division, the New Jersey Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Mr. Ritter has been involved with twelve officially reported decisions on a wide variety of legal issues including shareholder standing; CERCLA; RICO; bankruptcy law; civil procedure; Sunday closing laws; defamation; enforceability of settlements; First Amendment rights and liquor law liability.

Mr. Ritter has been retained as an expert witness in legal malpractice actions. He also has represented clients before legal ethics committees and licensing boards for accountants and physicians.

Mr. Ritter's skill as a litigator has been recognized by his peers. For the last fifteen years, Mr. Ritter has been rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell, the confidential statewide peer review rating service for attorneys. The AV rating is the highest possible rating. It identifies attorneys with pre-eminent expertise, experience and integrity. Mr. Ritter is also listed in Best Lawyers in America for commercial litigation and in New Jersey Super Lawyers for business litigation.

Mr. Ritter also handles corporate and transactional matters for his clients. He counsels business clients on a broad range of issues including shareholder and partnership agreements; the purchase and sale of businesses; the purchase and sale of commercial real estate; commercial leasing; commercial financing; employment-related issues and preparation of contracts.

Mr. Ritter has been approved by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Rule 1:40 Qualified Mediator.

Mr. Ritter currently serves as the Municipal Judge of the Borough of Alpine, New Jersey.

Mr. Ritter has been actively involved in bar association activities. He is a member of the Bergen County Bar Association. He was the President of the Young Lawyers Division and he served as a member of the General Council to the State Bar Association. Mr. Ritter was a member of the Bergen County Ethics Committee. He also served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Character for eleven years, serving as the Chairman of Bergen, Passaic and Hudson Counties and as a member of the Statewide Panel. Mr. Ritter is currently a member of the BCBA Judicial Appointments Committee.
